NEW BOOK SHHHHHHH
Release Date October 2023
Today marks an incredible day for Sharena. For over a year, she has been working on her second poetry collection. She was funded by Ace to help support her in developing her collection. Giving her the time to invest in her own creative practice, and that's the thing with learning you do.
The ideas that you started with become the spark to inspire what is to come. It doesn't necessarily mean it will be the outcome.
Her second collection is called 𝑺𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉𝒉
It's inspired by her own life and the experiences she never got to speak about. That feeling of being shushed, silenced. Which inspired her to write about women and their experiences of being silenced, too. Using her book as voice for women to amplify women's voices to say "You will be heard" and no longer silenced.
There are many layers to this book, from silence to roaring to SHE part 2. She can't wait to share. It's not been an easy writing. It's challenged her in ways she never knew writing could. It helped her to understand herself better, to look at herself deeper, develop her writing in a way she feels voices her poetry at a much deeper level. The release date is in October, but for now, she is pleased to share her beautiful book cover and the art work so beautifully created by Artist Marcela Diaz

LEEDS LIEDER
We were delighted to have Sharena Lee Satti as one of the poets for our 2018 Composers and Poets Forum, the seventh of these projects, which bring together student composers from the national conservatoires and White Rose universities and poets recruited mostly locally to form new creative partnerships. Over the course of some 6 months, the partners collaborate to produce new songs which are then workshopped during the Leeds Lieder Festival with a panel of professional musicians and poets before being premièred at a public Showcase later in the day. Writing for the voice presents many challenges and many of the composers and poets have never written for the voice before, but we are always hugely impressed with the energy, creativity and imagination which they bring to the work. Sharena’s song for the project, “Trapped”, written with London-based composer Clare Elton, and inspired by conversations with people suffering from the isolation and loneliness of homelessness, was a wonderful example of this, and a most valuable contribution to the success of the project. We wish her every success in the future.
